Progress at Isles!
April 18, 2009: At
the fourth PA3 volunteer day at Isles, a crew of about 25
area alums, family members and friends broke into groups to finish
deconstructing a room, scrape and paint walls, disassemble pallets, and
sort debris for recycling. Isles founder and president Marty Johnson '81
also gave everyone a tour of the amazing facility. Enthusiasm continues
unabated, and more PA3 volunteer opportunities at Isles are planned.

PA3 at Isles: Another "Smashing" Success
January 10, 2009: PA3 and Isles joined forces for another great volunteer event. Thirty hardy souls braved cold and dust to tear down walls, remove and haul concrete, pull nails, and commune with fellow alums, all for a great cause.

Back to Isles
October 26, 2008: The PA3 had another great day at Isles. A group of about half repeat
volunteers and half first-timers finished up the demolition in the area
where we’d begun work a month ago, and sorted the wood and other
disassembled bits into piles for reuse or recycling.

PA3 Goes to Isles
September 20, 2008: Our first PA3 Community Service event - a volunteer day
at Isles - was a great success. Almost 50 people - mostly alums, but
also students, families and friends - spent the day tearing down walls
and disassembling interior structures in a beautiful, century-plus-old
former textile mill. The 6.5 acre site is being converted by Isles into a
mixed use, "green" village, to include offices for public interest and
environmental organizations, training facilities for inner city youth,
homes, art studios and other spaces. We learned something and had a lot
of fun, and we're tentatively planning a similar event in late October
to finish the demolition in the area where we were working.
