Fall Drive and Lunch

Saturday, October 27th - PA5 Fall Drive:

Please join the PA5 (Princeton Area Alumni Association's Automobile Aficionados) for our annual Fall Drive and Lunch.

We will meet at Washington's Crossing State Park in NJ, then head to our PA lunch destination via a route takes takes us "off the beaten path" through Buck's County, and includes travel across a covered bridge.*  Along the way we will briefly stop at Bowman's Hill (tower with elevated view of the area), Van Sant Airport (time warp, grass runway a/p with vintage aircraft), and Fonthill Mansion.   Lunch is in what was once the stable of a revolutionary war-era inn.  It has been a bar for 150 years, with English pub, American bar, and Italian restaurant food available.  Also a nice selection of obscure beer on tap.

Should you be unable to make the morning drive but wish to join us at lunch, you are most welcome.  Please plan to meet us at the pub around 1230, time approximate!

Starting time:  Please arrive around 0915; so we can commence promptly at 0930.

Starting location:  Washington's Cross State Park - just west of Hopewell on RT 546.  We'll meet in the parking lot adjacent to the visitor center (turn left upon entering the park and follow the signs for visitor center)*

Lunch location:  Heart of Oak Pub, underneath Baci Restaurant, 2559 Bogart's Tavern Road, Doylestown PA.

The pub it is about 12 miles WNW of Washington's Crossing.

Please RSVP to Tom at tcmswift@comcast.net for lunch reservations.  We hope you can make it!
Tom's cell number 908 432 3192.

PA3 Back to School Event: Getting Teacher Evaluations Right

On October 25, 2012, a crowd of about 40 Tigers (PA3 members and alumni of the Teacher Prep program) gathered together to hear a lively panel discussion led by Timothy Matheney '89, who is the Director of Evaluation for NJ Department of Education.  Other panelists included Kathy Chesmel '85, Ph.D, John Yi '03, Kwame Ivery '93, and Sarah Paine '08.  The topic of the discussion was "Getting Teacher Evaluations Right."  Thank you to our panelists and to all who attended!

Raising support for local Trenton Schools: As part of the event, PA3 asked our members to consider a financial or school supplies donation that would go towards teachers at local schools, including Trenton High West, Trenton Central High School, and Ewing High School.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to all who donated resources to support our local teachers!  PA3 members donated $1,110 in cash contributions as well as a plethora of school supplies (including binders, paper, markers, graphing calculators, and more).  In addition, PA3 was pleased to provide a matching gift of $2,000, for a total cash donation of $3,110.  An awesome effort!

"Princeton: America's Campus" Lecture by Barksdale Maynard '86

W. Barksdale Maynard ’86 writes for the PAW and his fifth book is an excellent architectural history of Princeton's campus (and where the term "campus" was first applied to an educational institution).  His architectural campus tour at Reunions has developed quite a following and over 200 people attended this year.

He will be the inaugural lecturer at a series about New Jersey history, sponsored by the New Jersey Historical Society – and the lecture will be held at Drumthwacket, the Governor’s mansion and former home of a number of Princetonians but most notably Moses Taylor Pyne ‘1877.  A rare opportunity to visit this place many of us drive past.  And if we're lucky, maybe Chris Christie will stop by.
