The PA3 book club meets on the last Thursday of each month (except July, August & December) from 7-8:30 at a location on campus. Selections alternate between fiction and non-fiction, and the authors or books typically have a Princeton connection.

On March 29, we will be joined by Professor Yiyun Li for a discussion of her memoir, Dear Friend, from My Life I Write to you in Your Life.

Join us for First Fridays, a monthly recurring event for undergraduate and graduate Princeton alumni, graduate students, and parents.  On the first Friday of each month, area alumni and their guests will meet to enjoy a prix fixe luncheon at the Nassau Club in downtown Princeton.  As a special bonus for PA3, a Princeton University PhD candidate will present his/her work to the group in this informal setting.  Topics vary monthly and are always interesting!  Have a look at our impressive roster of previous luncheons.



Nicholas M. Risteen is a PhD candidate in the History and Theory of Architecture, conducting a research project on post-disaster reconstruction in Japan between 1923 and 1964 that focuses on Tokyo and its cycles of ruin and renewal after earthquake, war, and reinvention under the specter of emergency.  His dissertation is titled "After the Disaster: Architecture and Emergency in Extraordinary Time".

Julia Ioffe ’05 writes on national security, foreign policy, and politics for The Atlantic, having previously written for Politico, The New Yorker, and The New Republic. Her article “What Putin Really Wants” is the cover story of this month’s issue of The Atlantic. Her 2016 profile of Melania Trump for GQ attracted national attention after Ioffe was targeted by white supremacist trolls. She appears frequently on CNN, MSNBC, and PBS.

No one is better equipped to guide us through the complexities of this multi-faceted subject than Professor Alain Kornhauser, Faculty Chair of PAVE (Princeton Autonomous Vehicle Engineering). After introducing us to the terms; the technologies & role of deep learning; the major players & early adopters, his talk will explore economic/social costs & gains; the challenge of scaling; the milestones necessary for market acceptance --- and finally, the mechanics of managing it all.
