Princeton University Library Exhibition: "A Republic in the Wilderness"

As a follow-up to the private curatorial tour PA3 members enjoyed on April 16 (see here), please note that the Friends of the Princeton University Library will sponsor a lecture and reception to open officially the wonderful "A Republic in the Wilderness" Exhibition on Sunday, May 5.

The lecture by Professor Sean Wilentz will take place at 3:30 pm in McCosh 10 on the theme "The  First United States:  From the Revolution to the Civil War". A reception will follow from 4:30 - 6:00 pm  in the Main Gallery of Firestone Library, during which time the exhibition can be viewed. On that day, the exhibition will contain additional and very rare items, including for example, one of the earliest copies of the Declaration of Independence and a manuscript copy from 1774 of John Witherspoon's lectures on moral philosophy at Princeton.

As ten of our members discovered on the 16th, the books and artifacts on display are extraordinary and not to be missed. The event is an excellent opportunity to discover and to join the Friends of the Princeton University Library.

More information on the exhibition can be found at http://rbsc.princeton.edu/republic/.

Nominating Committee Seeks Suggestions for 2013 Officers

A Nominating Committee has been constituted as required by the Association's by-laws for the purpose of nominating four officers (president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer) and one director (to bring the directors up to the mandated number of six.)    A copy of our by-laws is on the PA3 website.    The responsibilities of the various officers and the directors are described in the by-laws.   Under Sec. 5.2 of the by-laws, the Nominating Committee "is responsible for developing a slate of candidates to be presented at the annual meeting...." . Under Sec. 2.5, the election of officers and directors shall take place "at the annual meeting".

If any member wishes to communicate suggestions concerning the positions to be filled, for consideration by the Nominating Committee, please contact any one of us by email or telephone.  Members of the Nominating Committee and their email addresses are indicated below.  Other coordinates are available on TigerNet.    In order to permit the Nominating Committee to prepare the slate of candidates sufficiently in advance of the annual meeting,  all suggestions must reach us not later than Friday, April 5, 2013.  The Nominating Committee will communicate to the membership recommendations for the positions to be filled at least one week in advance of the annual meeting, with biographical and other relevant information.

Happy Hour
 - Thursday March 28th

Co-Sponsored with Harvard and Penn!

Metro North
378 Alexander Rd, Princeton NJ
Thursday, March 28th
6:30 - 8:30PM

We're coming out of hibernation a bit early this year to team up with the Harvard Club of Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania Club of Metro New Jersey for a fun, informal happy hour at Metro North in Princeton.

If you haven't been to an IvyPlus event, we hope that you will be able to join us for this event! We are an informal group of people associated with Ivy League schools and other great institutions. We are a group that ranges broadly in age and experience and are united by a great love of science and the arts.

We always have a lot of laughs and really great conversations.
Please let us know if we will have the pleasure of your company. Please feel free to bring your friends and/or significant other.

If you are interested in helping us out or have ideas for different events, please let us know!

Hope to see you there,
Lily and Reilly
