POSTPONED (date TBD) - Private Tour & Wine/Cheese Reception - Mudd Library Exhibit on Graduate College Centennial

POSTPONED

In the continuing spirit of celebration of Princeton's campus to the west,

PA3 members are invited to a private curatorial tour of

the Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library exhibit

"Building the House of Knowledge" The Graduate College Centennial.

Procter Hall view: The centerpiece of the Graduate College, Procter Hall and the beautiful stained glass Great West Window looking towards the Cleveland Memorial Tower, ca. 1913

University Archivist and Curator Dan Linke will lead a tour of the exhibition, which chronicles the events and decisions framing the development of America's first graduate residential college.

Marking the 100th anniversary of the opening of Princeton’s Graduate College, “Building the House of Knowledge:” The Graduate College Centennial is filled with letters, documents and photographs from Princeton’s University Archives that reveal the story of how the concept of resident graduate education went from an inspired idea to a grand achievement, but not without significant controversy that brought nationwide attention to Princeton.

First Friday Lunch - January 10th, 2014 - Jeffrey Parker, 6th year grad student at PPPL, will discuss turbulence of plasmas

Join us for First Fridays, a monthly recurring event for undergraduate and graduate Princeton alumni, graduate students, and parents.  On the first Friday of each month, area alumni and their guests will meet to enjoy a prix fixe luncheon buffet at the Nassau Club in downtown Princeton.  As a special bonus for PA3, a Princeton University PhD candidate will present his/her work to the group in this informal setting.  Topics vary monthly and are always interesting!

In January (on the 2nd Friday of the month), we will be joined by Jeffrey Parker, a sixth year graduate student at the Princeton Plasma Physics Lab (PPPL).  Jeff will discuss with us his work on the turbulence of plasmas, asking how and why certain organized structures seem to paradoxically form out of chaos and disorder.  He will likely be able to give us his thoughts on the potential for fusion energy and how it might be able to address global energy and climate change problems.
