PA3 First Friday Lunch - October 5th, 2012

First Friday Lunch at the Nassau Club - October 5th, 2012

Join us for First Fridays, a monthly recurring event for undergraduate and graduate Princeton alumni, graduate students, and parents.  On the first Friday of each month, area alumni and their guests meet to enjoy a prix fixe luncheon buffet at the Nassau Club in downtown Princeton.  As a special bonus for PA3, a Princeton PhD candidate presents his/her work to the group in this informal setting.  Topics vary monthly and are always interesting!

This month, we will be joined by Ismaiel Yakub, a Lecturer in the Keller Center at the Engineering School.  Yakub received his MA and PhD in 2010 and 2012, respectively, in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  He will talk with us about his work, including his latest activity: instructor for the "Sustainable Buildings Team" of the Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS).  The team's objective is to apply a holistic approach to design and build a scalable, easily constructed, inexpensive, safe and sustainable modular housing system.  This year, Yakub's EPICS team will be focusing on improving the design of the BEE HOME, so called because of its honeycomb shape.

Specially priced at $25/person (or $30 if you choose not to pay PA3's annual dues), lunch includes the Nassau Club’s full buffet as well as a complementary beverage (wine, beer, soft drink). Pre-registration is required.

>> Looking forward to seeing you...in your orange and black! <<

This month, we will be joined by Darren Pais, a fifth-year Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Kuwait who works with Professor Naomi Leonard on studying emergent collective behavior of groups in biology and in robotics. His dissertation will contribute to the understanding of the evolutionary mechanisms for cooperation and tradeoff management in biological collectives, as well as the design of decision-making protocols for robotic groups. Among specific group behaviors that Darren studies are collective predator pursuit and prey evasion and collective migration. Darren has been the recipient of several prizes and fellowships, including a Wu Fellowship, the Athena Feron Prize, the Sayre Award, a Harari Fellowship and the Crocco Award for Outstanding Teaching. This year he is the recipient of the Graduate School's Harold W. Dodds Honorific Fellowship.

Join PA3 before Pre-Rade!

The Office of the Alumni Association invites all alumni to attend the annual Pre-rade at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 9. Come to the lawn in front of Nassau Hall to cheer on the members of Princeton's newest freshman class as they march from Opening Exercises through FitzRandolph Gate as they begin their undergraduate careers. It is a great opportunity to don your P-rade attire and make it a true Tiger experience!

PA3 members are invited to gather at Triumph Brewery BEFORE the Pre-Rade for a celebratory happy hour.  We'll be there from 3 - 4 PM.

Summer in Princeton Career Networking Reception

Reply to Princetonareaalumni@gmail.com by June 6

All Grad and Undergrad Alumni are invited to a Summer in Princeton Undergraduate Student/Alumni Reception!

Date & Time: Tuesday, June 12 from 5:30-7:00 PM

Location: Princeton University, Carl A. Fields Center, 58 Prospect AvenueWhat: at least 10-15 alumni needed

Careers: Arts & Entertainment, Architecture, Communications, Consulting, Education, Entrepreneurship, Environment, Fashion, Finance, Government, Law, Manufacturing, Marketing,  Medicine/Healthcare, Non-Profit & NGO, Real Estate, Science & Technology, Sports and more

The event will feature Dale Kramer Cohen, Entrepreneur and networking speaker, and alumni from various fields, sharing their insights on how Princeton has prepared them for future career options, success, and transitions. Our aim is to break into small groups by industry. The goal is to provoke broad discussions about the vast career choices available to Princeton students, and exposure to the diversity of people in them.
What’s in it for alumni? We know that each of you is very busy. If you were not, we would not be asking for your time. ·

Perhaps you can recall when you were a student and how clueless you were about the decisions you were making and the careers you didn’t know about ·
Perhaps you have a son or daughter at Princeton·
Perhaps you have an interesting story to tell about your career path·
Perhaps you are in career interrupts, but are nonetheless quite active

Satomi Chudasama and Lisa Bogdanski from Career Services and  Cheryl Rowe-Rendleman, '81 would like to invite each of you to join the discussion and remain afterwards for our reception.
Please let me know if you can be available for this event.
Please RSVP to me with your brief bio by Wednesday June 6, 2012.

Many thanks in advance for your participation.
