PA3 Elections 2022

Biographies of Candidates for Officers/Director of the Princeton Area Alumni Association 2021

(A copy of the Constitution and of the by-laws of the Association describing the functions of officers and directors, terms of office and other matters may be found under the Governance tab)

Nominee for Reelection as Treasurer:  Dan Hayes-Paterson '09

Dan has served as the treasurer of PA3 since 2019. He also has served as the technology chair for PA3 since 2010, as well as for the Class of 2009 since '09's fifth reunion -- writing websites for both organizations. He is a former chair of the Technology Advisory Committee of the Alumni Council's Executive Committee (which has since been merged into Communications and Technology). Dan graduated in 2009 with a BSE in computer science and a certificate in finance, and is currently a staff software engineer at Google, where he has worked since 2012. He is married to Sara Hastings ’09.

Nominee for Secretary:  Richard Ober '65

Rick Ober graduated in Public and International Affairs from Princeton in 1965 and Yale Law School in 1968. After a judicial clerkship and 5½ years with a large Philadelphia law firm, he joined United Jersey Banks as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, which subsequently became UJB Financial and Summit Bancorp, before selling in 2001. Thereafter he served as General Counsel of TerraCycle and Isles, Inc., before his present position as a Legal Analyst for the Princeton Gerrymandering Project. Rick has served as a Director and Chair of the Careers and Networking Committee of PA3, a P-Rade Marshall, Class of 1965 Treasurer and Reunions Treasurer, Alumni Schools Committee interviewer since 2004, PICS mentor, Office of Career Services volunteer and member of the Varsity Club, 1746 Society and Order of the Claw. Rick has served as an officer or trustee of several nonprofits and published articles on not-for-profit governance, risk management and gerrymandering. Rick and Carol, his wife of 49 years, have two daughters and four grandchildren. They moved into Stonebridge at Montgomery in September of 2019, where Carol serves as Secretary of the Residents Association and Rick serves on the Finance Advisory Committee. Rick enjoys tennis and skiing.

Nominee for Director:  Frank Derby '84

Frank has been an attorney in New York and New Jersey for over 30 years, serving in several law firms before joining a local financial firm as its vice-president and general counsel effective January 1. Frank has served as a trustee of The Mary Jacobs Memorial Library Foundation in Rocky Hill, NJ and as a member of the Board of Directors of Carolyn Stokes Preschool, an Ewing-based preschool serving disadvantaged young children in the greater Trenton area. Of interest to this audience, Frank has served Princeton University as an alumni interviewer, as secretary of the regional Princeton Area Alumni Association, and as a member and past chair of the Princetoniana Committee, sometimes known as the Freddy Fox ’39 committee and always known as devoted keepers of the Orange & the Black. Frank is a proud father of two grown children and served as coach of baseball and basketball little league teams when they were young. Neither plays either sport today, undoubtedly as a result of his coaching.
