PA3's Used Computer Collection Drive

to support TDI Connect

PA3 is collecting your used computers to support TDI Connect, who provides refurbished computers to students and adults in Trenton.   Their waitlist for computers in is the thousands!  They strip the old computers of all personal data and install a light-weight operating system that will allow the user to access the internet and perform many critical functions such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and more.  Without computers in their home, students and adults cannot learn and practice 21st century skills vital to success.   In addition, many afterschool programs need computers to provide literacy programs and other extra support to Trenton's children.

PA3 is providing collection drop off locations at the homes of Noemi de la Puente (Lawrenceville, noemidlp@yahoo.com) and Kristin Epstein (West Windsor, jandkepstein@hotmail.com). In addition, TDI Connect has permanent drop off locations, found here.

Note: PA3 is also organizing volunteers for multiple events with TDI Connect during the month of January.  Please check out these opportunities here.

What kind of computers does TDI need?

We are asking for computer donations from you! Trenton Digital is looking for old Windows/PC that are no longer being used. All donated computer will be restored with a new operating system, called Ubuntu. We reformat the hard drive prior to refurbishing and distributing each computer. Computers are refurbished with Ubuntu and come with a word processor, spreadsheet program, presentation program (all compatible with the current Microsoft Office) and Firefox (web browser).

How old can my computer be?

Ubuntu works on most PC computers and laptops regardless of how “old” they may be. However, TDI prefers computers with at least a Core Duo Processor or equivalent. Typically this would be a computer not older than 10 years.
