Sourlands Conservancy, Legislative Action- Deer Overpopulation, Legislative Researcher

The mission of the Sourland Conservancy is to protect the ecological integrity, historic resources and special character of the Sourland Mountain region, the largest contiguous forest in Central New Jersey. The over population of white tailed deer has severe environmental impacts on this region. In much of the Sourlands, the deer population is more than 80 per square mile — about 15 times the sustainable level. The effects on humans include epidemic levels of Lyme disease (spread by deer ticks), high rates of automobile accidents, and the destruction of gardens and landscaping. Because deer browse and kill nearly all the saplings and seedlings they encounter, the herd poses an existential threat to the forest itself. The Conservancy seeks someone who can research and draft legislation to legalize the sale of venison in New Jersey.

Pocono Center for Environmental Education (PEEC), Promotional and Fundraising Video, Director and Film Editor

PEEC advances environmental education, sustainable living, and appreciation for nature through
hands on experience in a national park. PEEC would like to create a short 3 – 5 minute video which conveys the environmental education experiences they offer to children and adults, as well as to audiences who are not familiar with the work of the organization. It needs to be a “best of/WOW!” video that conveys the vital nature of our work and tugs at the hearstrings of the viewer. PEEC will use the video to motivate new groups to experience PEEC and to encourage donors to support our organization.
