PA3 Members - Annual Dues

Dear Fellow Princeton Area Alumni:

Summer is winding down.  Soon the leaves will be turning, the weather will be cooling, students will be arriving on campus, and the Princeton Tigers Football team will start their defense of their 2016 Ivy Championship.

As an area alum you have the benefit of staying connected to Princeton, and the added benefit of being a member of one of the largest regional alumni associations, the Princeton Area Alumni Association (PA3) (www.princetonaaa.org).  The PA3 boasts over 3000 undergraduate and graduate alums, spouses, and parents of current students.  As a member, are welcome to attend any of the 50+ events we hold annually.  This includes monthly “First Friday” luncheons with a current PhD student, monthly “Propellers” on the Second Tuesday of each month featuring a Princeton entrepreneur, and a monthly book club.  In addition, we host a number of ad-hoc events including social happy hours, career and networking events, community service projects, lectures, seminars, exhibitions, performances, and much more.  Finally we work with the University to support various student-related activities including hosting students for Thanksgiving and other holidays, mentoring, etc.  We also have an Annual Dinner, which has had a number of interesting speakers.

My plea to you today is to encourage you to become a “dues-paying member.”  Dues-Paying members get discounted admission to our paid events, but more importantly, dues provide support for our various activities.  We are proud to have sponsored numerous PICS (Princeton Internships in Civic Service) summer internships for current students, which have been made possible by the generosity of our dues paying members.  Simply put, the more dues we collect, the more Princeton students can be "In Our Nation's (and local communities') Service"

Annual dues are only $30 ($20 if you are a recent graduate within the past 10 years).  You can also show a stronger level of support by being a “Top Tiger” with a $100 contribution.

As the next generation of alumni make their way back to campus, it is a perfect time to become a dues-paying member.  Just visit:

http://princetonaaa.org/dues

You can pay by credit card or check online, but if you prefer to mail a check, please make it payable to the Princeton Area Alumni Association, and send it to our Treasurer, Fouad J. Masrieh *69 (fjmasrieh@gmail.com):

Thank you again for your support!

First Friday Lunch - October 2017

Join us for First Fridays, a monthly recurring event for undergraduate and graduate Princeton alumni, graduate students, and parents.  On the first Friday of each month, area alumni and their guests will meet to enjoy a prix fixe luncheon at the Nassau Club in downtown Princeton.  As a special bonus for PA3, a Princeton University PhD candidate will present his/her work to the group in this informal setting.  Topics vary monthly and are always interesting!  Have a look at our impressive roster of previous luncheons.

Allison SimiOn Friday, October 6th, 2017, we will be joined by Allison Simi, a 6th year PhD candidate in Chemical and Biological Engineering.  Allison studies how mechanical properties of the tumor microenvironment influence the malignant potential of the surrounding cells. Tumors are inherently stiffer than normal tissue, and this feature is known to induce changes in the organization and proliferation of cells. Using a 2-D engineered microenvironment to model tissue stiffness, Allison has found that as the stiffness increases, cells frequently acquire more than one nucleus. These "multinucleated" cells are a known driver of cancer. Understanding how the properties of the tumor microenvironment can initiate cancer is essential to the development of effective treatments.

As always, there is sure to be a lively discussion! Please join us.

Specially priced at $25/person (or $30 if you choose not to pay PA3's annual dues), lunch includes three courses, a complementary soft drink and coffee/tea. [**Wine/beer offered a la carte**]
Pre-registration is preferred.
